The Vision Connection Advisory Board has been established to support the ongoing growth and sustainability of Vision Connection and the businesses within our membership.
Made up of experienced practice owners and industry leaders, the Advisory Board provides a practical, owner’s perspective on the challenges, opportunities and support needs facing independent practices. Their role is to provide feedback, insight and a member perspective on initiatives and programs in development, helping ensure Vision Connection continues to evolve in ways that support sustainable growth for both the group and our members’ businesses.
Joanne, or Jo, as many call her, is a successful coach and operations leader with four decades of career expertise, including 35 years in the optical field. She believes that her success lies in her ability to build great relationships, improve team culture, see patterns in numbers, and use strategic thinking to grow results. Joanne has an MBA from the Australian Institute of Business with specialisation across Corporate Finance, Managing Change, Project Management and Strategic Human Resource Development.
Belinda is the Director of Eyes@Optometry and a qualified optical dispenser based in Western Australia. Since opening her first practice in 2005, she has grown to three locations in Australind, Dalyellup, and Falcon.
Belinda is deeply passionate about strengthening the independent optometry sector and elevating the professional recognition of optical dispensers.
Allyson Freind is the owner of Northam Optical and recipient of the ODMA 2025 Independent Practice of the Year Award. Ally is passionate about all things optical and is actively involved in industry initiatives, including supporting the Optical Dispensers Association’s outreach program in Fiji.
With a strong belief in collaboration and community, Ally is dedicated to helping shape the future of independent eye care.
Sam is the owner of Adrenaline Optometry in New South Wales with a strong focus on helping practices grow sustainably in a rapidly changing industry.
He is committed on sharing real-world insights that help independents compete on value, strengthen customer engagement, and implement practical strategies for long-term success.
Angela Altuneg is the founder of Eye by Design, an independent practice and premium eyewear provider located in Kincumber on the NSW Central Coast. Her practice is known for its strong focus on personalised eye care for adults, seniors, and children.
With years of experience in independent optometry, Angela remains actively involved in the day-to-day operations of her business, bringing a practical insights and perspective to the industry.
While the Advisory Board does not oversee operations or make decisions on behalf of Vision Connection, their experience and perspective play an important role in ensuring the group continues to evolve in ways that are relevant, practical and member-focused.
