University of Melbourne Optometry Student Society (UMOSS) Independence Unlocked

Vision Connection hosted Independence Unlocked, in partnership with UMOSS, allowing optometry students to explore independent optometry as a career pathway through open conversations and real-world insights.

The evening began with dinner, providing students with the chance to connect with members of the Vision Connection team before hearing from Michael Nasser (Vision Connection Chair) and Joanne Scott-Dostine (Vision Connection CEO). Together, they shared their experiences in independent optometry, comparing independent practice with corporate environments, discussing different career pathways, and providing practical insights into what practice ownership can entail.

The session also introduced students to the Vision Connection Independent Path Playbook, a resource designed to help future optometrists better understand the journey to independent practice and ownership.

Students were invited to ask questions throughout the evening, creating an open and honest discussion about career opportunities, the realities of independent practice, and the support available to those interested in pursuing this pathway.

Attendees were provided information about joining Vision Connection as individual members to stay connected with future events, webinars, industry updates, and employment opportunities within independent optometry.
